Child Hunger Corps

As part of a continued effort to expand and improve child hunger programs across our network, Food Bank of Central New York applied for and was awarded participation in Feeding America's Child Hunger Corps National Service Program. The program, thanks to funding from ConAgra Foods Foundation, placed over 40 Corps members at food banks across the nation.

In 2015, Child Hunger Corps member Alex Boyd was welcomed to the Food Bank of Central New York to complete a two year placement as part of Feeding America's Child Hunger Corps national service program.

During his time at the Food Bank, Alex has conducted a six month community needs assessment within our eleven county service area to determine opportunities for program growth. View the Community Needs Assessment for Food Bank of Central New York's service area.

From the findings of his research, Alex developed a set of recommendations to address the child hunger programming gaps in central and northern New York. Alex has spend the bulk of his service term working to implement or expand child nutrition programs. The final six months of the program will be spent focused on program evaluation and process documentation to ensure the sustainability of programmatic growth. The program has a heavy focus on professional development, community building, and mentoring.

Food Bank of Central New York is excited to have Alex here as part of a continued effort to increase the number of meals provided to children and their families in central and northern New York.
