Tom Slater, the Executive Director of Food Bank of Central New York for 18 years, has announced his retirement.  Slater will step down from the organization he has led since 1995 in July of this year.  Under his leadership the Food Bank, which serves an 11 county region throughout central and northern New York, has grown to be one of the most respected in the area, and each year provides over 10 million meals to the community.  The Executive Director position will be filled by Kathleen Stress, an employee of the Food Bank for six years and current chief operating officer.

Speaking about the occasion, Slater said, “I have had the privilege to hold a meaningful job that makes a difference in other people’s lives every day.  I look forward to seeing the Food Bank continue to grow with the excellent staff we have in place.”

The Food Bank has created the Thomas F. Slater Fund as a way to carry on the legacy of their longtime Director.  Retirement activities to honor Slater’s years of work are being planned.
