On Tuesday, August 13, a special reception will be held for the community to meet Food Bank of Central New York’s new Executive Director, Kathleen Stress. The event will take place at the Raymour & Flanigan Furniture Store in Dewitt from 4:30 – 6:30pm. There is a short formal presentation scheduled for 5:45pm.
Kathleen Stress moved into the role of executive director of Food Bank of Central New York on July 8, 2013. She was named as the successor to Tom Slater, the Executive Director for the Food Bank from 1995 – 2013. She has been employed by the Food Bank since 2007 in the role as Chief Operating Officer and has the full support of the Board of Directors, outgoing executive director and staff in her new role.
Kathleen began her career in non-profits twenty years ago in childcare. She was quickly promoted into a director role where she assumed the responsibilities of overseeing three day care facilities. Because of her detail-oriented work she was again promoted to head the continuous quality improvement initiatives of her previous employer. Since her hiring at the Food Bank, she has supervised the day-to-day operations of the agency, including warehousing, agency relations, food sourcing and nutrition, outreach, philanthropy and technology.
William Murphy, President of the Food Bank’s Board of Directors said, “We are very fortunate to have Kathleen Stress take over as our new executive director. Since she started at the Food Bank, Kathleen has proven herself as an organizer and leader. The rest of our employees have looked to her for guidance, and she has responded wonderfully!”
