The great New York State Fair brings together the best food, music, rides, games, exhibits, animals, agriculture and so much more of all the things that make New York State special. This year, fairgoers will also have four different opportunities to support the Food Bank of Central New York.
On August 21, Food Bank Executive Director Kathleen Stress will be joined by staff and volunteers in the daily parade. As the featured charity that day, Food Bank is providing volunteers to help marshal the parade while a Food Bank van and a contingent of supporters march to raise awareness about hunger. Special thanks to the Harmony Katz who will join Mrs. Stress while singing their signature tune, We Sing To Feed Them All.
On Saturday, August 23, Canstruction will happen in the Horticulture Building. Canstruction® is a unique charity which hosts competitions, exhibitions and events showcasing colossal structures made entirely out of full cans of food. The build will begin at 10am with judging at 3pm. Representatives from the Food Bank will be there from 10am until 4pm collecting non-perishable food and monetary donations.
On Monday, August 25, Food Bank of Central New York will participate in Dairy Day. At events throughout the day, fairgoers will learn about the Great American Milk Drive and how they can help provide milk to individuals and families in need. These donations will help the Food Bank continue to distribute milk coupons throughout the emergency food network. Food Bank staff members will also participate in the Milkshake Contest at 10:30am and the Cow Milking Contest at 3pm.
Every day at the Fair, Safelite will have a booth near the Swine Building where Safelite employees will distribute information about their work while collecting monetary donations to support the hunger-relief mission of Food Bank of Central New York. In addition to learning about the Safelite AdvantageTM and donating to the Food Bank, there will be special gifts for people who give donations of $5 or more with all proceeds going to the Food Bank. Any person that donates $10 or more at once will receive a special edition t-shirt, while supplies last.
