Summer meal program gets support from Woodforest Charitable Foundation

Woodforest Charitable Foundation has donated $1,850 to Food Bank of Central New York to support the Summer Food Service Program.  The program provides meals to children who depend on the National School Lunch Program for meals during the school year but must do without during the summer break.  Woodforest Charitable Foundation has chosen to support the Food Bank as part of their ongoing efforts to assist the communities served by Woodforest National Bank.  Regional Manager of Woodforest Bank John Hawryschuk was on hand to present the check to Food Bank’s Director of Philanthropy, Lynn Hy.

Food Bank of Central New York’s Summer Food Service Program plays an essential role in fulfilling the nutritional needs of many children in the community.  Director of Food Sourcing and Nutrition Heather Hudson explains, “At a time when adequate nutrition plays such an important role in their development, too often children who are at-risk are uncertain where their next meal will come from.  The purpose of the Summer Food Service Program is to ensure that these children have the food they need to grow properly and thrive, and with community partners like Woodforest Charitable Foundation we are able to continue to provide nutritious meals throughout the summer months.”  In 2012, the Food Bank will provide meals for children at ten locations in central New York.
